MILLING SHOES

TECHNICAL SUMMARY

According to the different shapes, milling shoes can be divided into: pilot type, econo type, flat bottom junk type, concave type, taper type, string type, etc.

The surface of milling shoes is welded with granular wear-resistant materials with self sharpening effect, which are used to grind down objects such as bolts, nuts, teeth, slip teeth, deep well pump accessories, etc. Here is the information of some of the most commonly used milling shoes.

▪️Flat bottom and concave junk mill

The flat bottom and concave junk mill milling the fishes with the effect of drilling pressure by the YD alloy and anti-abrasive material on its bottom surface. The junk was carried out of well by the drilling fluid.

▪️Pilot mill

The pilot mill is used to mill the fishes which have inner bore instability and shake in the well, such as drill pipe, drill collar, tubing, etc.
The pilot mill is made up of mill shoe body and pilot cone, as the following picture. The upper part of the mill shoe body is inner thread, the lower part is cylinder which diameter is bigger. Welding YD alloy and anti-abrasive material on the back plane of pilot cone and mill shoe body. The pilot cone has the effect of leading and fixing the top of the fish. And there are 2-4 water crossing grooves on the back plane of the mill shoe body to make sure it can circulate unblocked.
The pilot mill shoes locate the fish by the cone, which is entered into the fish, and then rotate with the drilling tool, the mill shoes welded with YD alloy grind the fish.

▪️Taper mill

The taper mill is mainly used for restoring the deformational fish’s top or restoring the crimping and burrs during drilling and clean the mineral crystallization and other hard stuff on the well to resume bore size. The taper mill uses its alloy to mill the crystallization and other impurities on the inner wall of the casing. The cylindrical part has the effect of centralizing, the junk is carried to the ground by flushing fluid.
